Welcome to school year 2016-2017
September 2016 (en Español)
Dear PS75 Families,
Welcome to PS75!
As a parent you are immediately part of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA). For us to represent the entire PS75 community, we need every one to participate. Please stop by the PTA office after drop off AND attend our PTA monthly meetings to contribute your ideas to better our school. The meetings are a great way to learn about what is going on at school and our fundraising efforts. Dates and activities are posted regularly on the PTA bulletin board, on the website, weekly emails and backpack flyers. At A Glance bulletin will be backpacked and available on the website. Office hours at the PTA office are 8-10am daily – please drop by anytime – if only to say ‘Hi!” Please sign up the weekly email on the website ps75pta.org
Did you know PS75 has an award winning dual language program, award winning principal, award winning teachers and award winning chess team?
New Programs this Year!
• CineKids Film Society of Lincoln Center Grades 3 & 4
• New York Historical Society
• Theatre, a class special for all grades
The PTA and PS75 always need YOUR help. The PTA raises funds to provide a wide range of educational enrichment programs for our students such as our highly coveted art instruction program Studio in A School, kindergarten aides, Young Peoples Chorus, Ballroom Dancing, Chess in the Classroom, Symphony Space’s Global Arts Social Studies, Carnegie Hall Musical Explorers, Audubon Bird Program, New York Historical Society, classroom supplies, and much more. Without the funds raised by the PTA these programs would not exist.
You can help in many ways
(1) Make a monetary donation
(3) Shop online (see website for details)
(4) Co-Chair and event
(5) Support PS75 school events
By volunteering, you will get to enjoy interacting with the children and other parents and accomplish things that truly make a difference. We are in need of parents to chair several of our important fundraising events. Please consider volunteering as it really does make a difference in the lives of all our children!
Initiatives this year
PS75 has smartboards in every classroom and student iMac laptops on every floor for in-class use and iPads for kindergarden. The laptops are made possible by Helen Rosenthal’s office and iPads made possible from a generous donation from Lowes.
Principal O’Brien has purchased subscriptions for Raz Kids, Brainpop, Flocabular and IXL, an online math tutoring program.
Parent Involvement Workshops & Open Classrooms:
Stay tuned for the workshops and open classroom days which will promote a better understanding of what children are doing in the classroom and how parents can help home.
Small Yard Renovation: We are hopeful the small yard will undergo a major renovation this year. Dates to be announced. This is a $300k grant made possible by Helen Rosenthal’s office.
New Boiler & Lighting Upgrade: The upgrades to the lighting system and new boiler system will continue this year.
Parent Resources: For more information about how you can help your child at home, log on to EngageNY - https://www.engageny.org
Stronger Recycling Campaign: In an effort to impart our children to better stewards of the earth and environment, each class will have Recycling Champions through a partnership with GrowNYC’s Recycling Champions Program. We are very excited that our Science teachers will help lead the charge with parent volunteers.
We sincerely thank you in advance for your support. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
